Target Market

The obvious group to sell Switzerland to is the outdoors lovers. Switzerland is known for its natural beauty. What may close the sale is when you let them know about the country’s other dimensions. Clients that love a balanced vacation that offers healthy outdoor activities in beautiful settings and urban delights as well.

How To Sell

No country in the world is so logistically designed for ease of travel. The Swiss Rail System makes getting around Switzerland a snap. The Swiss Rail Pass is good on the trains, on lake steamers, on cable cars and on the country’s legendary postal busses. The Swiss Rail Pass is available from four days to one month. Switzerland has a reputation for being expensive, but the country has quality services even at the two- and three-star level. They even see that the youth hostels are well maintained. You can travel very comfortably in Switzerland at the most modest levels. So how do you sell it? Ask your clients if they like good food, great jazz, breathtaking mountain vistas, slow journeys on lake steamers, mountain hiking, world class skiing and some of the prettiest cities in Europe. Well if they do, they’ll love Switzerland.

The Switzerland Tourism office provides travellers with all of the information they need to plan a vacation or holiday in Switzerland. While Swiss neutrality, as well as its elevated altitude, may keep it above the European fray, it doesn’t keep it out of the center of Europe when it comes to making vacations. The Alpine experience combines the world’s best skiing with an après ski that is rich in European culture and comfort. In the summer those same Alps are a haven for hikers. While Swiss travel is well known for wholesome outdoor activities, Zurich is also one of Europe’s “CoolCapitals,” a joint marketing approach to the 20 something hip traveler. Zurich may be the country’s hippest city, but there are plenty of smaller cities that compete with any in Europe for charm.

Bern, the gateway to the Bernese Oberland and the country’s federal capital, features great restaurants and hotels serving the government and its guests. Lugano, just a few miles north of Milano, and culturally just as Italian gives visitors a view that includes snowcapped Alps and palm trees. Lake Geneva offers a whole other brand of outdoor experience and from June 30 to July 15, a hip experience when the great Montreux Jazz Festival blows its cool horns. The diversity of Switzerland is its charm.
