Hurricane Irene made its way out of Bahamian waters Thursday evening, Aug. 25. The major tourism areas in Nassau and Grand Bahama Island, as well as most of the other islands, have reported limited damage and are returning to normal operations. As of Friday, Aug. 26, visitors who remained on island have begun returning to the beaches.

Most airports throughout the country were back in operation as of Friday, Aug. 26, with the exception of airports in Rum Cay, Treasure Cay in Abaco and New Bight Airport in Cat Island. The airport in Grand Bahama Island was expected to reopen Saturday morning, Aug. 27. Visitors with flights scheduled over the weekend were being advised to contact their airline for information.

Cruise ports in Nassau and Grand Bahama Island are open. The first cruise ship operated by Disney returned to Nassau on Friday morning, Aug. 26, and other ships are anticipated to resume calls on Saturday, Aug. 27. Hotels, resorts and attractions throughout The Bahamas are open and accepting arrivals, including the country's largest resort, Atlantis. Some closures remain, since many Out Island properties normally close at this time of year. Consumers are being advised to contact their prospective hotel for information.
