Uzbekistan Launches High Speed Tashkent-Smarkand Rail Line

Uzbekistan has launched a new high-speed rail line connecting Tashkent and Samarkand. The new high-speed electric train, call Afrosiyob, was manufactured by Patentes Talgo S.L. (Spain). It made its first trip from Tashkent to Samarkand on Aug. 26. The train covered the distance of 205 miles in two hours.

On some sections of the route the maximum speed of the train reached 150 miles per hour. The first train was delivered to Tashkent at the end of July. The second train will be delivered in September this year. The electric train consists of two locomotives, eight passenger carriages and one dining carriage. The train has VIP, first-class and economy class seats. The total capacity of the train is 257 passengers. For more information, visit www.uzbektourism.uz/en.
