7 Best Things To Do In Denmark

Denmark is one of the coolest Scandinavian countries to visit. The home of lego and the Vikings, you just know there'll be some fun things to do here.

The capital city, Copenhagen, even has a harbor clean enough to swim in. Let's take a look at the top things to do in Denmark in the summer.

It’s About The Climb

Heard the saying “it’s not about the destination, it’s the climb”? Well, the best part about Denmark is it’s actually about the view, too.

Climb an enormous tower with a spiral ramp and once at the top, you’ll have a magnificent view of the whole of Zealand from the Forest Tower.

Our position above the treetops made us feel like giants.

Take A Selfie With A Giant

We all love taking selfies while on vacation, but the quest for the ultimate selfie spot is an ongoing one. So be different and take a selfie with a giant.

On the west Coast near Esbjerg, we came across these imposing monuments. Named “Man Meets the Sea”, they are the brainchild of Svend Wiig Hansen.

You may have to wait a moment to get an audience with one of the giants, but it’ll be well worth it. Fortunately, they’re not camera-shy.

Your Own Little Danish Island

Here’s an island getaway experience with a difference, and you don’t even have to go traveling further than Copenhagen harbor.

This is one of the simplest and most fun things to do in Copenhagen. Rent a small boat and explore the harbor. Then moor it to one of the specially created miniature “islands” before enjoying a picnic lunch, or just laying back to birdwatch.

Walk The Bridge

If heights don’t bother you and you enjoy getting some exercise, walking the bridge is your ideal Danish vacation activity.

The Old Lillebælt Bridge is a granite construction, slowly becoming overgrown with marine life. You’ll enjoy spectacular views here, with great photo opportunities. And of course, lots of clean, fresh air.

Be A Viking For A Day

Want to be a Viking for a day? There are several Viking-themed activities here, but we especially enjoyed the Viking Ship Museum’s longboat sailing experience. The guide told stories about the area’s Viking history while we played our part as members of the crew.

This was easily one of the highlights of our Scandinavian travels.

Explore The Danish Underworld

Sometimes, the most fun can be had underground. Forget dungeons and dragons. Visit Denmark’s old castle dungeons, said to be inhabited by ghosts.

Our day trip from Copenhagen took us to the dungeons and cellars of Kronborg Castle. We didn't see any ghosts, but the atmosphere was alive with history and mystery.

And the statue of legendary Danish knight Holger Danske guarding the subterranean corridors was pretty impressive.

Fly A Kite

Some of the best festivals are held in Europe, and Denmark is no exception. We loved this festival with a difference, perfect for traveling with kids. Although it’s just as much fun for the adults!

If you enjoy hot air balloon festivals, you’ll probably enjoy this. If you’re traveling through Denmark in September, don’t miss out on the beachfront Kite Festival. Indulge in this day of merriment on the island of Rømø, off the southwest coast of Jutland.

If you don’t want to take part, you can still sit and watch all the colorful kites rise through the sky. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and allow your daydreams to carry you away.

Begin Your Danish Adventure

These are only a few of the many interesting things you’ll be able to do on a tour of Denmark. Your Danish adventure starts here. Book the vacation of a lifetime and make memories you’ll never forget in the beautiful Kingdom of Denmark.
