Did The NY Giants Trash This United Flight?

An NFL team that most assuredly lost to the Green Bay Packers last weekend may have trashed a perfectly fine airplane on their way back into town.

The New York Post reports the Giants, losers in Sunday's NFL Wild Card game against the Green Bay Packers, 38-13, have allegedly been a party to one epic airplane soiree. In what may have been an example of letting off some remarkable steam, the team is said to have, "(trashed) the jumbo jet that carried them home - leaving it reeking of booze and forcing a major clean-up at Newark Airport,"

Now, the report does stipulate that there is a bit of they-said/they-said taking place in this instance.

For the Giants part, the team is denying that it had destroyed or 'trashed' any airplane. A spokesperson is quoted as saying: "It's not true. It's false."

The Post explains that passengers quickly spread the news that it was the NFL team that was to blame for a delay at Newark.

One such passenger, Mark Kropf, explained: "the pilot came out and asked for everyone's patience, and shared where the plane came from and that the plane needed extra help repairing and cleaning the interior. Another 30 minutes passed, and the gate agent told us it was the Giants that destroyed the biz class cabin, and we saw service personnel walking countless seat cushions off the plane."

Regardless of whether it was indeed the Giants, the cabin seems to have been left in a rather frightening condition.

Kropf continues: "Upon entering the business class cabin, the cleaning scent only partially masked the alcohol smell. I had popcorn, chewing tobacco and other food crumbs on my seat."

As the Post discovered, United Airlines Flight 934 was indeed three hours late leaving Newark for London as the crew worked on the airplane that had arrived from Green Bay.

United spokeswoman Maddie King dispelled the notion that the cause was frustration based: "We can't confirm who are customers are, so we can't confirm the Giants were on the flight. There was a mechanical issue with the plane scheduled to operate Flight 934 from Newark to London which resulted in an aircraft swap so the flight was delayed while our team in Newark worked to find an alternative aircraft that could operate the flight."

Context clues don't look great as a few travelers have blamed the Giants for the delay. So, this may be either a whispered rumor running wild or a team taking a loss to deplorable levels. The team's Odell Beckham Jr. did redecorate a wall after the loss, after all.

If the Giants did destroy the airplane, they would join some disreputable company as TravelPulse recently reported on the crew of the movie "Spectre" and a stag party that also trashed their respective planes.

Kudos to those travelers who don't take their aggression on airplanes.
