Now is the time to cruise to the Caribbean, and Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has five solid reasons why.

"First and foremost, our hearts go out to those impacted by the hurricanes in the Caribbean; they are a cherished part of our cruise family. CLIA cruise line members have joined in Caribbean relief efforts, providing more than $30 million in financial resources, transporting families and pets as well as a variety of supplies to people in need," said Cindy D'Aoust, president and CEO, CLIA, in a press release.

"Providing much needed relief is only the first step in helping the Caribbean region. Tourism is essential to local economies and the cruise industry is committed to the region and will continue to offer amazing cruise itineraries and experiences."

Fresh off October's Plan a Cruise Month, travelers should know that the region is up and running following recent major hurricanes.

The Caribbean is Open

Yes, the majority of ports are accepting cruise calls-San Juan and St. Thomas included. In total, nearly 50 are now open to visitation such as the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

And if they are not already, they are soon expected to be.

Deals & Promos

CLIA specifically mentions Plan a Cruise Month promotions, but even beyond those, many specials and sales have been extended. Plus, there are plenty more to look forward to for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Both consumers and travel agents have access to great savings and perks accordingly.

New Itineraries

The Caribbean may be a mainstay destination with several classic circuits, but there are still updated routes and ports to be discovered. Pristine beaches, vivid seas and dramatic shores await at public locales as well as private islands.

Support Recovery

You can be a large part of the help. Tourism money contributes greatly to supporting local economies, individuals and small business. Merely reserving a Caribbean cruise extends funds their way.

Unique Experiences

The best part of heading to such aforementioned destinations is discovering everything from ancient temples to tasty cuisine. Exciting shore excursion options include the likes of zip-lining over tropical foliage, snorkeling or scuba diving with marine mammals or even rum tasting.
