Viking Ocean Cruises has acted swiftly and is now making changes to all of the shower glass on its new ship, the Viking Star, after two passengers reported safety incidents.
In a report from Chris Gray Faust of CruiseCritic.com, officials from Viking announced that all of the glass partitions and doors used on the Viking Star cruise ship will be removed and refitted to avoid any further issues.
The problem for the company stems from two passengers on the ship reporting the glass panels on the side of the shower shattered with no clear cause. The reports were shared on Cruise Critic's forums, and to Viking's credit, the company has acted swiftly.
A Viking spokesperson explained to Cruise Critic that the company had reached out to "design engineers, the glass manufacturers and independent third-party glass experts" to figure out what the cause of the issue and the next course of action.
The spokesperson for Viking released a statement about the situation and the likely cause behind the incidents:
"The conclusion reached is that these were isolated incidents; they were not part of a chain of events and do not correlate to a particular stateroom category or location on the ship. According to the engineers and experts, the failures resulted from a combination of the settling process that occurs with new ships and the incorrect fitting of the glass. The experts continue to monitor the situation to ensure it is resolved."
"The safety of our guests and staff is always our top priority and we are extremely upset that a few of our guests have had to experience this situation. Please know that we are working tirelessly onboard to prevent any similar incidents from happening again."
