Thinking about foregoing vacation and staying home? The U.S. is already well-known as the "no-vacation nation" so why perpetuate the stereotype? Especially when the folks over at Refinery 29 has debunked these top five excuses for not hitting the road for your next adventure.

Don't pass up the chance to have extraordinary experiences because you buy into these myths. Next time you're on the fence about whether to plan a trip, go ahead and jump over it.

We've also debunked some of these myths, such as travel not being safe and the benefits of traveling alone here, here and here. But the article does a good job of pointing out that ideas, such as not speaking the language and waiting to travel in life, are holding you back from potential adventures in your prime.

"There's no guarantees in this life - none," Valerie Conners, founder of the popular travel blog Passenger Conners told Refinery 29. "You might get sick, injured, or find yourself in the role of full-time caretaker for a partner or relative. You have no way of knowing today where you'll find yourself in 20 years, much less two years." Any of these scenarios could hinder your ability to travel later in life, she points out. "Poof! All your future travel plans will be relegated to 'a dream you once had' status."

And, when it comes to language barriers, Spencer Spellman of Whiskey Tango Globetrot recommended Google Translate and even language immersion courses: "If you really want to go local, some destinations afford the opportunity to stay with a family that you're learning the local language from," said Spellman. "It doesn't get much more immersive than that."

So put your excuses aside, put technology to work and get out there and explore. Click here if you need some more encouragement.
