The holidays can be a stressful time for many. After all, more than half of Americans say they need a vacation from the holidays, according to a recent survey commissioned by Priceline.com.
This year's Priceline.com Holiday survey of approximately 1,000 nationally representative U.S. adults found that a whopping 56 percent admitted to needing to get away from the seasonal chaos.
Perhaps even more surprising, more than half of Americans (52 percent) also say they would rather stay at a hotel than with friends or family during the holidays. Sorry, in-laws.
In response to Americans' desire and, in some cases, need to get away this time of year, Priceline.com has launched an Express Deals Unwrapped promotion that begins Monday and continues through Jan. 3, 2016.
Available to Priceline.com app users, the promotion alerts travelers to discounted hotel deals throughout the holiday season. Users will receive credits that they can use to unwrap hidden deals that will include the name of the hotel. Afterward, users will have 15 minutes to book.
"Our customer data shows that mobile bookings typically spike around Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve as travelers visit friends and family and gift new mobile devices," Priceline.com's Chief Product Officer John Caine said in a statement. "With Express Deals Unwrapped, we've joined with our hotel partners to offer on-the-go, mobile customers savings of up to 60 percent during the busiest time of the year."
It turns out that time spent with family may just be the best and worst part of the holidays. According to the survey, nearly one-third of Americans (29 percent) indicated that they wish they could leave a family member at home during a holiday trip.
What's more, nearly half of respondents under the age of 25 (48 percent) expressed the same sentiment.
When it comes to getting away around the holidays, many Americans are seeking warm weather and sunshine, according to the Priceline.com survey, which found that 43 percent of respondents hope to receive a tropical vacation package this holiday.
A five-star hotel experience is also among American's most coveted getaways this winter.
Those who aren't lucky enough to escape the cold this winter are likely to pretend they're content. Based on survey results, 43 percent of Americans will most likely fake their holiday cheer at least once before the season is over.
However, many still cherish a White Christmas, with 63 percent of Americans indicating that they prefer snow vacations to sand vacations during the holidays.
