Solo travel is heating up heading into summer, with destinations, hotels, cruise lines and other travel suppliers looking to capitalize on the growing trend.
On Tuesday, travAlliancemedia president and CEO, Mark Murphy appeared on FOX 29 Philadelphia to share some of his favorite destinations for solo travel, including Toronto and New York City. The latter will be buzzing with distinct events and experiences all summer.
"There's a great little hotel called the Hotel Belleclaire on the Upper West Side. You live like a local and walk a few blocks and you're in the middle of Central Park," says Murphy. "It's under $200 right now so you just have to pick your weekends."
When it comes to solo travel overseas, Murphy highly recommends Thailand.
"One of my favorite places in the world because you go there and it's so cheap. You can stay in what you call a six-star hotel for under $100 a night," he said. "You can go for 10 days and spend less on the ground than you spent flying there and you can still get there for $800 to $1,000."
Travelers can also take advantage of solo offers from cruise lines like Carnival Cruise Line.
"Carnival has a great sailing date in the third week of September on the Victory for three nights and four days for under $500 by yourself. You do the Bahamas circuit out of Florida. It's a great little roundtrip because normally it would cost you double," added Murphy.
