The Hilton Honors app is about to get even more powerful.

On Wednesday, Hilton announced it has partnered with Showtime to allow guests to stream the premium cable network's popular content to the brand's Connected Rooms via their mobile phones at no extra cost.

It marks the first-ever collaboration of its kind between a major hotel company and a premium entertainment provider.

The news comes a little more than four months after Hilton revealed it was beta testing Connected Room, which will roll out at hotels across the U.S. this year. Hilton plans to outfit thousands of rooms across multiple brands and markets with the technology over the course of 2018.

Guests looking to stream Showtime original series like "Homeland" and "Billions" as well as other entertainment such as movies, documentaries and comedy specials on-demand won't need a subscription in order to access content thanks to a new application specially developed for Connected Room.

"Connected Room has set a new standard for the industry by giving our guests a travel experience where their room can be customized to their preferences, and also offers complimentary on-demand access to SHOWTIME service," said Jon Witter, Chief Customer Officer at Hilton, in a statement. "The availability of in-app controls is the next step in allowing guests to manage all aspects of their stay from the palm of their hands."

In addition to streaming Showtime, guests in Connected Rooms will be able to use their device to control the lighting and temperature to personalize their space. Even Connected Room guests who don't have the Hilton Honors app will benefit from a simplified television remote and room controls built into the television.

The Hilton Honors app also allows users to check in, select their room and unlock the door with Digital Key. The latter feature is available at more than 3,000 Hilton hotels.

The collaboration with Showtime comes one year after Hyatt Hotels Corporation teamed up with streaming solutions provider SONIFI to allow guests to personalize their in-room streaming experience.
