Flooding closed both Six Flags Over Texas, and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor water parks prematurely on Saturday afternoon, CBS DFW reported. But bothSix Flags Over TexasandHurricane Harborannounced on their websites, and on Twitter that the parks are back open today at noon.
Both theme parks are located in Arlington Texas, near Dallas/Fort Worth. This area has been subjected to much bad weather over the past few days, and according to Weather.com, remains under a flash flood watch until Monday.
News chopper footage from Saturday shows rollercoaster loops partially submerged, as the weekend's deluge of rain caused nearby Johnson Creek to overflow its banks, Six Flags spokesperson Sharon Parker told CBS DFW.
After the water subsided, Parker said Saturday the crew's first priority is to clear debris, then give extra attention to the rides. "They will do a preliminary safety check tonight, and then they will do their routine safety checks in the morning, she said to CBS DFW. "Then open back up for business."
Regarding those whose visit was cut short, and may seek a refund, Parker did say to CBS DFW that they "have a rain check policy that we implement on a case-by-case basis," and those who were "inconvenienced" are talking to a "guest relations team."
Although the parks are open to the public again, some rides appear to be shuttered, according to comments on Twitter.
