Packing for a road trip can be challenging at times, especially if it's a new destination that we've never been to before. We don't always know what to expect from the road, and often over pack so we're prepared for almost anything.
We've been road tripping for six years now, and there are a few "essential" items that you'll always find in our car while on a road trip.
The LMFAO CD
Music is a big thing when it comes to road tripping. During my first road trip, music was the source of many arguments between me and a fellow road tripper. Half way across the country, the LMFAO cd seemed to be the only cd we could agree on. This became a running joke for us, and we now start off every road trip with a mix of LMFAO songs; it's kind of a road trip tradition.
10 lbs of spaghetti
Our road trip adventures started off several years ago when we were in university. To help save money, we chose to bring most of our food with us, one being a huge bucket of spaghetti that would last us several days. We now bring spaghetti on every road trip we go on, even the short 26-hour road trips.
A cooler
Space is always an issue when it comes to road tripping in a car, and a cooler can takes up a lot of room, but there are many benefits to having a cooler in your car. We always road trip with a cooler as it saves us on having to buy food while on the road. It's also handy during the summer time to store cold drinks, but also great for remote locations when you feel like snacking on something.
Glow sticks
I'm a pretty big fan of glow sticks. I love using them when we go camping. I started bringing them on our road trips with us, and have actually had to use them several times; once because we were lost in the forest after a big hike, and once because we didn't have any road flares and our car broke down.
Blankets
Who doesn't need a good nap! Not only are having blankets a safety precaution for if you get stuck somewhere remote, and have to sleep over night somewhere cold, but it's also great to have in the car for if you're tired. It's a good idea to pull over for a quick nap before carrying on with your road trip.
A first-aid kit
Murphy 's Law of course, we've never needed to use our first-aid kit, but it will be the one time we don't have it that we need it. To be safe, we always travel with it in our car.
