In the Mayan culture, the movement of the sun does not go unnoticed. There is a specific day of the year where the day and night are the same length and the harvest season arrives.
Sandos Hotels & Resorts says this calls for a celebration. The 2017 Autumn Equinox celebration took place at Sandos Caracol on September 22, 2017.
The day began with a meditation session on the beach to welcome a positive vibe. This set the tone for the rest of the day's activities.
Among others, one of the highlights was a traditional cooking lesson by one of the chefs at the resort. Guests were able to learn how to prepare Mexican meals with the traditional flavors of the area. Throughout the day, guests were able to taste other traditional snacks as well.
At the Maya Artisan Fair, visitors were able to take their pick of souvenirs, and when evening came around, the Maya Face Painting Station was set up. Children were able to join in on games and listen to the traditional music throughout the night.
It was an exciting way to learn about the culture of the area, and is a fun event to put on the calendar for next year!
