Tulum's Growing Appeal
The popular Millennial destination is also a draw for travelers interested in nature, culture and history.

Bohemian, low-rise Tulum has become a staple vacation spot for hipster Millennials looking to get away from some of the more party-centric destinations found in other parts of Mexico’s Riviera Maya region.
The destination, however, is growing in popularity with other types of travelers looking for a Mexican getaway that features natural, cultural and historic attractions.
Based on input from agents, the Quintana Roo Tourism Board and SEDETUR, the secretary of tourism for Quintana Roo, here’s a rundown of properties to recommend to your clients.
Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya
The adults-only Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is located on a prime spot of beach and includes 434 suites. Each of the hotel’s luxury accommodations includes a kingsize bed or two double beds, a private terrace or balcony, an in-suite whirlpool for two and a complimentary mini-bar.
Casa Malca
This former mansion was once owned by the late, notorious drug lord, Pablo Escobar. It first opened with just nine bedrooms in 2015. It has morphed into a 42-room hotel located in a natural jungle setting with three pools and locally influenced international cuisine.
Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa
Location is one of the top reasons to stay at Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa—a 432-room resort located near ancient Maya ruins and the Xel-Ha Park, a popular aquatic theme park. Guestrooms include living areas, private terraces or balconies, and views of the resort gardens or the Caribbean Sea. Among the most popular rooms here are the swim-out rooms and suites, with direct access to the swimming pool near the terrace.
Azulik Resort
Azulik Resort is an ideal match for Millennial clients looking for rustic luxury. There are no electric lights or televisions at the hotel, which promotes nature as its top amenity. Azulik has 48 wooden-crafted villas located in the trees.
Millennials looking for a unique dining experience should grab a bite at KIN TOH—a restaurant built on stilts 39 feet above Tulum’s Maya jungle. KIN TOH serves up a Maya-Mexican cuisine.
Catalonia Royal Tulum
The adults-only, partially all-inclusive Catalonia Royal Tulum is a great option for Millennials looking for a hideaway off the beaten path.
All Privileged rooms include the resort’s all-inclusive package. Among them are the Privileged Junior Suites, which have living rooms and king-size beds with canopies. Guests also have access to the wet areas of the hotel’s spa and receive a discount on spa services.
Millennials will also be interested in the hotel’s disco, which features nightly Caribbean music and dancing.
Grand Bahia Principe Tulum
This fully all-inclusive resort is equipped with 978 rooms, three pools, five restaurants, seven bars and a spa. Among the best guestrooms are the Junior Suite Superior Ocean Front accommodations, which can sleep up to three adults and one child with two full-size beds or one king-size bed and a terrace or balcony.
