Cabo Continues to Add New Hotels
In 2018, Los Cabos will add 1,200 guest roomswith still more debuting in 2019 and beyond.

Modern architecture, world-class cuisine, and exclusivity are key words that aptly describe the Los Cabos hotel scene. This year alone, some 1,200 new guestrooms will come online—and that’s in addition to several properties of note that opened last year.
Some newer properties, such as Chileno Bay Resort & Residences Los Cabos, an Auberge Resort, which opened in 2017, are shining the spotlight on Cabo’s East Cape. Home to marine sanctuaries, fishing villages and tranquil, clear waters, the East Cape is one of the New York Times’ “52 Places to Go in 2018.” Set on 22 acres, Chileno Bay Resort features 60 guestrooms, 32 villas and a 150-yard swimming pool.
Sky Villas (at 3,300 square feet) are available for special-occasion and family travel. The 11,000-squarefoot Brisa del Mar villa offers six bedrooms, its own beach and pool. It’s accessible only by boat, General Manager Eliezer Quinones told Vacation Agent. Twelve additional guestrooms and 24 villas are scheduled to open by the end of 2018.
In San Jose del Cabo, the 454-room Krystal Grand Los Cabos recently opened its doors. Aimed at the family and group market, it features four pools, a kids and teens club, fitness center, spa, meeting facilities and wedding gazebo. VIP Altitude suites have access to a private swimming pool and conciergelevel services.
The property fills a much-needed niche, according to the property’s director of sales, Rafael Sanchez Navarro. “Brands such as Le Montage and Nobu are all coming in at an ultra-luxury level. We are a little below that—especially on the price point,” he said. “We’re an affordable all-inclusive that is an allaround good product. It’s important for agents to understand what we’re aiming for. That makes it easier to meet client expectations.”
Early 2018 also saw the opening of the first phase of the Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas Resort, in an 834-acre private resort community on the southern end of the Baja Peninsula. An 18-hole Greg Norman golf course is slated to open this spring, along with a shopping and entertainment village, said Ricardo Orozco, vice president of operations for Solmar Hotel & Resorts. Resort residences of up to four bedrooms can also be booked as hotel rooms.
The much-anticipated Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos celebrated its soft opening in early 2018. The 373-room property features four pools, seven restaurants and 14,000 square feet of meeting space. Suites range in size from 760 to 1,400 square feet and offer round-theclock butler and room service, Apple TV and Bulgari amenities. The spa measures nearly 30,000 square feet and boasts 25 treatment rooms.
A number of high-profile openings are still to come in 2018. Among them is Solaz, A Luxury Collection Resort, Los Cabos. The 128-room property offers panoramic Sea of Cortez views and guestrooms with outdoor terraces featuring private pools, whirlpools and fire pits.
The 122-room Montage Los Cabos is set to open in May. It’s located in the Twin Dolphin master community, on the Sea of Cortez’ Santa Maria Bay. The 10,000-square-foot Ocean View Casas come with private infinity pools.
Garza Blanca Resort & Spa Los Cabos is slated to debut in July. Located within the Hotel Corridor, the property features 315 suites, lofts, penthouses and master residences. It is equipped with three restaurants, four bars, eight pools, a gym, tennis court, family fun zone and a spa.
Zadun, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, is scheduled to open its doors this summer in the 2,000-acre Puerto Los Cabos development on the San Jose del Cabo coast. The resort’s 115 villas feature panoramic Sea of Cortez views, butler service and private pools.
Nobu Los Cabos is expected to open in 2018 as well. The 200-room property couples a beachfront Cabo San Lucas setting with a Japanese-inspired design. It will feature a spa, a variety of lounges and events space. One of the biggest draws, of course, will be the signature Nobu Restaurant and Bar. Nobu Residences are also in the pipeline for Los Cabos.
The 145-room Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos is set to debut later this year in the 1,000-acre Costa Palmas development on the Sea of Cortez. The complex features a two-mile-long north-facing beach, private marina, village area and Robert Trent Jones II golf course. The property will include five concept restaurants, a spa and multiple pools, and indoor and outdoor events space.
