Learn About The Last Frontier
NACTA’s Alaska fam couples two nights in Sitka with a three-day Alaskan Dream Cruises’ sailing.

The National Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA) is heading north to the Great Land for a land-and-sea adventure fam with Alaskan Dream Cruises.
The Sept. 14-19 fam trip starts in Sitka and concludes in Juneau. The first two nights will be spent at the Sitka Westmark with a welcome reception and tour the next day at the Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka National Historical Park, and the Fortress of the Bear.
“I lived in Alaska for 10 years and never had a better experience than with Alaskan Dream Cruises,” said Sheila Ward-Shaw, of Sheila’s Creations Travel in Stockton, Calif. “The areas we visited in Sitka, such as the Raptor Center, are places I would have never thought to visit. Seeing the raptors was amazing. The cruise allowed sightings you would miss on larger vessels that can’t get as close to the shores. It was a fantastic experience and I would love to do it again.”
The Raptor Center rescues injured birds and offers rehabilitation and release programs. Visitors meet one of the birds the center uses for educational purposes and explore the flight center. At the national park, you’ll see native Alaskan artisans demonstrate totem-making skills and you can view totem exhibits.
At Fortress of the Bear, you’ll view brown bears in a natural setting. This center rescues orphaned bear cubs and offers rehabilitation. You can get within 25 feet of Alaska’s brown bear in a naturalized setting by observing three populations of bears from a large covered viewing platform. The three-quarter-acre habitat is located about five miles from the town center, set against the Tongass National Forest.
You’ll board the 74-passenger ship on Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. and then cruise Glacier Bay, a national park fjord that extends 65 miles, contains eight tidewater glaciers and provides a pristine habitat for a wide array of wildlife, including brown and black bears, wolves, mountain goats, sea lions and humpback whales.
The highlight for many is the Margerie Glacier, known for its dramatic calving displays. A park service ranger narrates the day’s program and a Native Huna Tlingit interpretive naturalist reveals traditional cultural ties to this ancient treasure. On Sept. 18, an evening will be spent at Orca Point Lodge to enjoy the beautiful grounds, beach and marine-life touch-tank. Dinners will feature Alaskan salmon, Alaskan king crab or prime rib.
Pricing starts at $704 per person, double occupancy, for NACTA/ASTA members and includes airport pick-up and drop-off, hotel accommodations on a twin-sharing basis, all meals onboard ship, day tours, luggage pick-up and delivery to the ship, entrance fees per itinerary, and all taxes. Airfare is not included.
