Montgomery is the capital of Alabama and played a huge role in the Civil Rights Movement. It was the site of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the Selma to Montgomery Marches. Today it has a large military presence due to the Maxwell and Gunter Air Force Base and several high tech companies including the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Company.

The Hyundai Motor Company opened the doors to its $1.4 billion plant in 2004. The plant employs over three thousand employees and currently produces the Santa Fe sport utility vehicle and the Sonata Sedan. This plant was the first assembly and manufacturing plant in the United States.

Montgomery is nationally known for its cultural and historical landmarks including the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Church, the Alabama State Capitol, the First White House of the Confederacy and much more. Montgomery is home to the Wright Brothers first school for powered flight and the first electric car system.

This city boasts education, with 36 elementary schools, 12 junior/middle schools, eight high schools and 15 colleges, universities and military schools. All the schools in Alabama’s state capital boast world class educational opportunities for all their students.

Several festivals are held throughout the year including the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. This is the sixth largest Shakespeare festival in the world, attracting over 300 thousand visitors. Performances are held year round in the $21.5 million Carolyn Blount Theatre. There are a total of 14 different performances that can be seen throughout the year at this theater, three of them being part of the Shakespeare festival.

There are several theaters, museums and historical attractions to be found throughout the city such as the Davis Theatre of Performing Arts, the Civil Rights Memorial, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the Hank Williams Museum and much more. Other attractions that can be enjoyed in Montgomery are the Montgomery Riverwalk and the Montgomery Biscuits.
