About

Let busy schedules and “to do lists” disappear. In Michigan unspoiled nature and authentic character revive the spirits. Michigan is a four season wonderland. It has the world's longest freshwater coastline, lakes that feel like oceans, shimmering beaches, miles and miles of cherry orchards, glorious sunrises and sunsets, daytime skies of the deepest blue and nighttime skies scattered with stars.

There are 99 state parks and recreation areas and hundreds of islands dot Michigan waters. Isle Royale National Park is a remote wilderness retreat in Lake Superior where wolves and moose roam free. Mackinac Island, located in the Straits of Mackinac is a lush 19th-century resort community fixed firmly in the Victorian era, a car-free island dominated by an 18th-century fort and the more than a century-old Grand Hotel, America's largest summer resort hotel.

The Upper Peninsula, which is 90 percent forest, retains its aura of accessible wilderness. Vast wildlife and waterfowl refuges, 150 waterfalls, iron and copper mines, the Soo Locks (where ocean-going freighters make the 21-foot leap from Lake Superior to Lake Huron) are within an easy drive of one another.

The AuSable Queen Riverboat (near Oscoda) runs 2-hour tours from May into October. The view is unique, the captain's commentary is informative and sometimes funny and since somebody else is doing the driving, you are free to relax and enjoy the scenery, the wildlife and the company of your traveling companions.

The Henry Ford Museum, in Dearborn, is the history destination that brings the American Experience to life. Housing one of the largest collections of its kind ever assembled, the museum showcases the people and their day to day life.

Other areas you shouldn’t miss out on are Detroit, the Kalamazoo Air Zoo, where you can celebrate the Wright brothers' first flight, tour the International Space Station, take the controls of a military jet plane and experience the Midwest's only 4D Theater. If shopping is more your thing, head over to Metro Detroit where acres of malls and countless boutiques stock gifts as unique and amazing as the people you're shopping for.
