Immortalized in Song
Hawaiian culture has long celebrated specific geographical features of the Hawaiian Islands in legend, chant, and song. Such locations, called wahi pana (treasured places) are often noted in the chants and songs using words of reverence, such as kaulana (famous, noted) hanohano (magnificent, honored) and maika'i or nani (beautiful, good-looking).
Many of the places so treasured in song are easily accessible and frequently visited by travelers. Click through the following pages for examples of Hawai'i places treasured in song, and of the songs about their beauty.
