Las Vegas must be back in a big way, because for the third time this week an airline has announced new or expanded service to Sin City.
This time it's JetBlue Airways, which will launch new non-stop service between San Francisco International Airport and Las Vegas' McCarran International beginning Jan. 5 with two daily roundtrips. JetBlue will use its 150-seat A320 aircraft.
"Our loyal San Francisco customers have long asked for a high-quality option to Las Vegas, so we're delighted to make this addition to our route map," Scott Laurence, JetBlue's senior vice president of airline planning, said in a statement. "Plus, in just a few short weeks we'll debut our popular new Mint service on flights between San Francisco and New York, yet another way we're bringing a higher standard of service to the market."
Mint is JetBlue's new luxury service on select flights that include seats that transform into day-beds.
For JetBlue, some of this is "keeping up with the Joneses." Earlier this week, Virgin America announced seasonal flights four times a week starting Jan. 8 and ending April 28 between Boston and Las Vegas, as well as the addition of two weekly round trips between New York and Las Vegas.
Edelweiss, a non-competitor airline to Jet Blue - but nonetheless one that offers another option to Sin City - also announced an expansion to Vegas. The Switzerland-based carrier will add a third weekly roundtrip between Las Vegas and Zurich beginning in June.
