The countdown to the Sochi Winter Olympics is on and as the hype leading up to the month-long Olympiad builds, Delta is helping fans wish the athletes well.
Or more specifically, #GoldLuck.
Delta Airlines, the official airline of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, is providing fans with a direct connection to U.S. athletes as they head off to Sochi.
Fans can record a ten-second personalized video at a Delta #GoldLuck video kiosk at upcoming USSA Olympic qualifying events and share the video via Facebook and Twitter.
All of the videos will be compiled on Delta's Facebook page to motivate the athletes attempting to earn spots on the U.S. Ski Team, U.S. Snowboarding and U.S. Freeskiing teams in Sochi.
"We wanted to create a way for fans across the country to celebrate these amazing athletes and deliver them an inspiring send off to Sochi," said Bob Kupbens, Delta's vice president, marketing and digital commerce. "We feel that these personalized 'good luck' messages will provide our athletes with even greater motivation to bring home the gold."
Video units will be placed at the following upcoming USSA Olympic qualifying events in California,Utah and Colorado in January:
Visa Freestyle World Cup in Deer Valley, Utah: Jan. 9-11
Sprint U.S. Grand Prix in Breckenridge, Colo.: Jan. 10-12
Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix in Park City, Utah: Jan. 17-18
Sprint U.S. Grand Prix in Mammoth, Calif.: Jan. 17-19
In addition, mobile video units will pop up at various Delta terminals across the country throughout the month.
Professional snowboarder and 2010 Olympic team member Louie Vito will be in the Delta tent at the events in Colorado and California to greet fans and help them create their #GoldLuck videos.
