Dubai-based Emirates airline announced that it has signed on as the Official Airline Sponsor of the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball.

Emirates announced that the deal between the airline and the Dodgers includes signage on home plate and the foul poles, as well as the opening of a new Emirates Lounge. The lounge will be big enough to handle 70 Emirates employees and guests.

In addition to the signage and lounge, the partnership between the Los Angeles baseball team and the airline will also feature ceremonial first pitches, fan appreciation activities, in-game activations and even a sponsorship of the Dubai Little League All Star travel teams, now dubbed the Dubai Dodgers.

The relationship between Emirates and the Dodgers is not the airline’s first dealings with sports, as the company has partnerships with major soccer clubs like AC Milan, Real Madrid and Arsenal, as well as tennis tournaments like the U.S. Open, the Australian Open and the French Open.

Starting July 1, Emirates will begin flying a second daily Airbus A380 service to Los Angeles, and the partnership with the Dodgers is expected to help continue exposing the brand to the people in the Southern California area.

Emirates president Sir Tim Clark released a statement about the new partnership:

This is a historic partnership as it is Emirates’ first major league team sponsorship in the U.S. We are proud to be the Official Airline partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are an innovative and cutting edge organization not just in the world of baseball, but also in the broader realm of popular sports and culture. We look forward to a long-term partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and to working with them to support and connect fans and the community to the team.”

Dodgers’ senior vice president Michael Young also released a statement:

“We are honored that Emirates Airline has chosen the Dodgers to showcase their unrivaled position as the global leader in the airline industry to the millions of Los Angeles Dodger fans in the US and internationally. We look forward to working with Emirates and their great staff in activating our multi-year partnership with our fans.”
