United Shows Commitment to Hub Market Communities

United Airlines announced Wednesday it is committing $8 million in grants to help address pressing issues identified by local leadership in each of its hub market communities.
As part of United’s commitment to the communities where many of its customers and employees live and work, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Newark/New York and Washington, D.C. will all receive the airline’s helping hand.
In Chicago, United will work with the nonprofit Year Up to help close the “Opportunity Divide” by awarding a grant for $1 million to the organization which provides young adults technical and professional skills training, hands-on corporate internships, college credits, and support.
“Connecting our customers to the moments that matter most goes well beyond getting them from point A to point B,” United CEO Oscar Munoz said in a statement. “We have the opportunity to make lasting, measurable change. We are proud to do our part to help our home here in Chicago and are excited to share more with each of our hub communities over the coming weeks.”
United will now join members of local communities and leadership groups in its domestic hub markets to identify a unique area of critical needs in each city and announce additional grants.
The four-year grants will feature the United team working with local organizations and community leaders to create profound, sustainable advancements. Grant for the other cities will be announced in the coming weeks.
