Dramatic passenger video emerged over the weekend of police storming a Sunwing Airlines flight after it landed to arrest a man who verbally threatened to blow up the plane.
The passenger, 25-year old Canadian citizen Ali Shahi was taken into custody and charged with uttering threats and endangering the safety of an aircraft. He was released on bail on Saturday.
The Ohio Air National Guard scrambled two F-16 fighter jets out of an air base in Toledo on Friday after Shahi made threats against the flight. Sunwing Airlines Flight 772 departed from Toronto Pearson International Airport at 7 a.m. bound for Panama City. But the plane reversed course over West Virginia about 45 minutes into the flight due to an “agitated passenger (who) directly threatened the aircraft,” a Sunwing spokeswoman said. The fighter jets escorted the plane out of U.S. airspace and back into Canada.
When the plane landed back in Toronto, Peel Regional Police Tactical Officers stormed the plane, guns drawn, screaming “Heads down, arms up!”
