Harrowing.
And miraculous.
A small plane used for skydiving, carrying the pilot, a skydiving instructor and several students, was forced to make an emergency landing on a New Jersey highway in Strafford Township.
Thankfully, the incident happened on a Sunday with far less traffic on the road. Still, New Jersey roadways – be they the Turnpike, Garden State Parkway or I-80 – tend to have lots of volume.
This one, Route 72, crosses with Route 9 and still has two lanes going in each direction.
Somehow, the pilot avoided power lines – and cars – and clipped only a few road signs in bringing the aircraft down. Only one of the six people onboard suffered any injuries, and even that was just a small cut to the arm.
The dramatic footage was captured by security cameras and initially shows the pilot trying to land on the highway itself before he dodges left and sets the plane down on the grassy median.
