If you’re a frequent flyer who also uses ridesharing apps, you should check out a new promotion via Delta Air Lines and Lyft. Thanks to a partnership between the two brands, you can now earn Delta SkyMiles each time you use the Lyft app to score a ride.
Before you can start earning Delta miles via Lyft, you have to log in and link your Lyft and Delta accounts. (You’ll also get a special one-time ride credit as a first-time Lyft user.)
Here’s the fine print on the website:
“Link your SkyMiles and Lyft accounts at www.delta.com/lyft to start earning miles on every ride. Plus, for a limited time, qualifying airport rides earn triple miles*. New to Lyft? New Lyft users get $20 in ride credit.
Ride Rewarded when you take Lyft to the airport, to work or just around town. Miles never expire and can be used to travel to 1,000+ destinations worldwide. Plus, enjoy no blackout dates on any Delta Air Lines flight. Get started at www.delta.com/lyft and watch the miles add up with every ride.”
If you don’t have a Delta account or a Lyft account, rest assured you can sign up for both for free.
While Delta SkyMiles isn’t known as the best frequent flyer program in the world, your free miles (and the rest of your Delta miles) will never expire.
How Many Miles Will You Earn?
At the moment, you’ll earn one mile for every $1 you spend with the rideshare app. For a limited time, however, you’ll earn 3x miles for each dollar you spend on airport rides. And remember, this is all in addition to the $20 credit you get for downloading the Lyft app and taking your first ride.
Keep in mind, however, that you will not earn miles on taxes, fees, tolls and tips.

Credit Card Rewards and the RideShare Game
Delta and Lyft aren’t the first airline and rideshare app to join forces. Currently, you can also link your Starwood Preferred Guest and Uber accounts to earn starpoints on eligible Uber rides. With that program, however, you must complete a paid stay with the hotel brand each year to qualify.
In addition, the Platinum Card from American Express offers up to $200 in complimentary Uber rides each year for cardholders, with subsidies doled out on a monthly basis. Basically, cardholders get $15 in free monthly Uber rides with a $20 bonus credit each December.
Will similar partnerships take place? Only time will tell. In the meantime, take advantage of these offers to score as many free hotel points and airline miles as you can.
