The Hertz Corporation has launched Hertz 24/7, a new, self-serve rental option that allows customers to rent car at any time, day or night. The company is now offering a wide variety of technology-enhanced vehicles near customers’ homes or work places when needed and for any length of time: hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. Hertz estimates that by 2016 it will have self-serve vehicles within minutes of the majority of the U.S. population.
Hertz will hold a demonstration event for the service in the New York City area during the second week of September. The technology event will focus on the future of in-car telematics and mobile applications. The company will provide more details about the event later this summer.
Hertz 24/7 is powered by the Click. Swipe. Go! Process, allowing customers to click on the company’s main website or the website for the service from their mobile devices or laptops and complete a reservation process in a few minutes. When the customer arrives at the car, he or she swipes the 24/7 key fob against the reader on the windshield to unlock the doors. The keys are tethered to the dashboard.
Hertz 24/7 service is available at 1,800 neighborhood and airport locations in the U.S., France, Germany, U.K., Spain and Australia. The company plans to be in more than 2,000 locations by year-end. The global fleet consists of 35,000 vehicles, including cars, mini-vans, vans and SUVs, that are equipped for 24/7 rentals. Hertz said it will have approximately 500,000 Hertz 24/7-enabled vehicles in service globally by 2016.
