Australian Billionaire Clive Palmer has scheduled a press conference for Feb. 26 in New York City to reveal more details about his plans to build a replica Titanic II, a full-scale recreation of the original ill-fated ocean liner.
Palmer, who is chairman of Blue Star Line, last April signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese company CSC Jinling to build the vessel, while Deltamarin, a Finnish marine design and engineering company, has started drawing up the plans. The Feb. 26 event will take place at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum at Pier 86 in New York, not far from Pier 59 where the Titanic would’ve docked had it not sank in the Northern Atlantic in 1912. Other Titanic II reveal events are scheduled for Feb. 25 in Boston, March 1 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, March 2 in London and March 5 in Southampton, England.
Palmer said Titanic II is scheduled to sail from Southampton to New York on its maiden passenger voyage in 2016. For more information, visit the company website.
