European Waterways has completed a $500,000 fleet-wide upgrade and refurbishment program. The line’s hotel barges operate through scenic countrysides on the canals and waterways of Europe. In France, they’re on the rivers and canals of Burgundy. In Scotland, the line cruises Loch Ness and the Great Glen between Inverness and Fort William on the Caledonian Canal.
Yearly inspection and repair of the barges goes with the territory. But, the goal of the recent upgrades was to enhance the guest experience, according to Managing Director Derek Banks.
“It’s the small details that make the difference between a good vacation and a great one. Once we have the engineering work completed, we are free to focus upon exclusive, personalized service. This includes working with renowned interior designer Marion Falchi and her team to create interiors that are a wonderful mixture of homely tradition and contemporary style,” said Banks.
Upgrades on European Waterways vessels in France include a redesigned saloon, new staircase, bar area, banquettes and dining table for the 12-passenger L’Impressionniste. The eight-passenger L’Art de Vivre was fitted with new bathrooms. And, the eight-passenger Anjodi now sports a new hardwood sundeck.
In Scotland, the eight-passenger Scottish Highlander was improved with a new guest entrance and easier access. The 12-passenger Spirit of Scotland, the line’s newest addition, features a new Jacuzzi, new curtains, carpets and improved interior lighting.
Additionally, new Mercedes-Benz vans will chauffeur guests on shore excursions.
