Hapag-Lloyd Cancels More Hanseatic Cruises After Fire in Shipyard
Cruise Line & Cruise Ship Hapag-Lloyd Cruises June 24, 2013
Hapag-Lloyd has cancelled two more cruises on the Hanseatic while damage from a June 9 engine room fire is repaired. Cancelled were the July 14 departure from Longyearbyen, Norway, and the Aug. 1 cruise from Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. Previously, the German line cancelled the June 17 and July 4 cruises.
The fire occurred while the ship was in dry dock at the Bredo shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany. After the first two cruises were cancelled, additional investigation found “that the damage was bigger than originally anticipated,” the company said in a statement. Passengers will get a full refund and a 10 percent discount on their next cruise in 2013-14. Travel agent commissions will be protected.
