As part of its plan for greater global brand recognition, Cunard is preparing to redesign its Queen Victoria beginning on May 5, 2017 to the tune of $40 million.
The ship is scheduled to reemerge from the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Italy with new enhancements on June 4, 2017.
“Cunard guests are very passionate about their ships, so we have given great consideration to Cunard’s aesthetic integrity and rich 176-year history,” said Alan McVitty, Director at M Design, in a press release. “We drew upon inspiration from archival imagery of not only Cunard’s ships, but of the architectural elements of its buildings in Liverpool and New York.”
Following the dramatic remastering of flagship Queen Mary 2, the Queen Victoria will be redesigned with its own Britannia Club balcony staterooms and restaurant, as well as a refresh of all existing Britannia staterooms. The Grand Suites and aft Penthouse Suites will also be entirely redone.
In total, 43 Britannia Club staterooms will be crafted, and Britannia Club Dining will let guests eat at times of their choosing. The new dining venue will displace the original chart room adjacent to the main Britannia restaurant.
Additionally, the Aquitania, Berengaria, Mauretania and Laconia Suites will be given square footage comparable to that aboard the Queen Elizabeth (round 1,436 sq. ft.). The Cunard Grand Suites will altogether sport new colors and designs in service of comfort and entertainment. Included will be floor-to-ceiling windows and doors, a service entrance prep area, snug room with TV, lounge, master sea-view bath, second bathroom, walk-in wardrobe and balcony.

Meanwhile, five new Penthouse Suites will also include floor-to-ceiling windows, separated living and sleeping areas, plus naturally-lit bathrooms.
With the removal of the former chart room, a new Chart Room concept takes its place on Deck 2 near the Grand Lobby, where Cafe Carinthia is now. Featured here will be illy coffee and Godiva chocolate during the day, as well as cocktails in the evening. There will also be a gin and fizz-themed menu introduced at the Midships Lounge.
