Ringing in the New Year at Sea
Cruise Line & Cruise Ship Paul Gauguin Cruises Theresa Norton December 30, 2013

While so many will flock to Times Square and similarly freezing locations to see the ball drop, a growing number of smart travelers are reveling aboard cruise ships.
Here's a look at where some of the cruise lines will be celebrating New Year's.
Quepos, Costa Rica
Windstar Cruises’ 148-passenger motor-sail vessel Wind Spirit will visit the charming port of Quepos, Costa Rica, departing at 6 p.m. for a seagoing New Year’s Eve celebration. Guests will wake up in Golfito after an 8 a.m. arrival.
Roatan, Honduras
Norwegian Cruise Line’s 2,244-passenger Norwegian Dawn will spend Dec. 31 in Roatan, Honduras, departing at 5 p.m., just as the sun begins to set. They’ll get up in Belize City, arriving at 8 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
Princess Cays
Princess Cruises’ 3,080-passenger Ruby Princess will visit the sandy shores of its private Bahamian island, Princess Cays, until 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Then the celebration takes place at sea and the ship will continue cruising the warm waters on Jan. 1.
Galapagos Islands
As you’d expect for a vessel named Silver Galapagos, Silversea’s newest expedition ship will ring in the New Year in Ecuador’s wildlife-rich Galapagos Islands. The 100-suite ship sails in the region year-round.
Phuket, Thailand
SeaDream Yacht Club’s 112-guest Sea Dream II is sailing in Asia this winter and will overnight on New Year’s Eve on Patong Beach on the island of Phuket, Thailand.
Bora Bora
Paul Gauguin Cruises’ 332-guest Paul Gauguin will be in Bora Bora, French Polynesia, for New Year’s Eve.
The Caribbean Sea
Carnival Cruise Lines’ 2,974-passenger Carnival Glory will spend Dec. 31 sailing the crystal waters of the Caribbean, between Nassau and St. Thomas.
