You spent a fun, albeit exhausting, day or two at Disneyland, devouring theme park food, going on as many rides as you can, and taking selfies with Mickey and friends. So what do you do next? Luckily for you, Los Angeles is a treasure trove of eclectic diversions and a great city to explore post Disneyland. Scratch that. It’s the best place to visit, especially when you’re keeping with the Disney theme. Here are some of the best things to do in La La Land if you’re still on that Disney high.
Tour the Disney Studios
The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California, saw the creation of many of the entertainment conglomerate’s greatest hits, including Mary Poppins, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and The Princess Diaries. While public tours of the studios are not available, there are several ways to get on a guided private tour—one of which is by going on Adventures by Disney’s Southern California tour. It’s certainly worth it, as you will get exclusive access to gems that the general public doesn’t see, including the Legends Plaza and the Walt Disney Archives.
Visit the Walt Disney Concert Hall
Set on South Garland Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles, this Frank Gehry-designed concert hall is a prominent landmark and an impressive fixture in the City of Angels. With its stainless steel panels and series of curvatures, the Walt Disney Concert Hall is representative of the famous architect’s design and a great landmark to photograph and explore. Hour-long tours, both self-guided and with a guide, are available to those interested. However, it is also the official home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic so that guests can come and see them perform as well.
Watch a Disney Movie at El Capitan
The grand and historic theater of El Capitan itself is a spectacular place to visit, with its Spanish Colonial architecture as well as its intricate and vibrant interior. Today, it’s also a wonderful place to see a movie. Not only will spectators experience the elegance of old world theatrical production, they will also be treated to immersive, state-of-the-art movie watching. They constantly hold special screenings of Disney movies here, old and new, as well as movie sing-alongs and exclusive preshow features.
Explore Walt’s Barn at the LA Steamers Railroad Museum
In the ’50s before Disneyland’s existence, Walt Disney built the Carolwood Pacific Railroad (CPRR) to indulge his passion for trains and railroads as well as provide a nice diversion for friends and family. Today, the barn that served as CPRR’s center of operations as well as Walt’s workshop sits at the LA Live Steamers Railroad Museum in the famous Griffith Park. It’s been converted into a small museum that showcases Walt’s scale models, personal items, tools, photographs and more. Pop in for a quick visit then also spend some time at the neighboring Travel Town where old trains are on display and accessible for “boarding.”
