Twentieth Century Fox (TCF) unveiled the name of its $300 million theme park: Twentieth Century Fox World at Resorts World Genting. TCF also unveiled its official logo and gave a glimpse of the park’s attractions at a ground-breaking event that was attended by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, and executives from both companies.
The resort, due to open in 2016, is being built on 25 acres of the former site of the Genting Outdoor Theme Park in Genting, Malaysia.
The outdoor Genting Park closed in November to begin construction, though attractions at the First World Indoor Theme Park remain open to the public.
“We are investing $300 million to develop the world’s first unique and compelling world-class Twentieth Century Fox Theme Park,” said Chairman & Chief Executive of Genting Malaysia Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay. “Having the distinction of being the first of its kind in the world, Twentieth Century Fox World will be built on a grand scale that consists of unique and creative concepts featuring more than 25 rides and attractions of a cinematic nature,”
The rides and attractions will be based on such Twentieth Century Fox films as “Night at the Museum,” “Planet of the Apes,” “Ice Age,” “Alien” and “Predator.” The partnership joins Resorts World Genting (RWG) and Twentieth Century Fox (TCF); the world’s largest destination resort operator in RWG and one of the world’s largest producers and distributors of entertainment content in the world in TCF.
The Genting Theme Park first opened in 1978 as the Genting Amusement and Recreation Park. In the last two years the park has hosted more than 40 million visitors from both domestic and international markets.
The Genting Group also plans to begin construction on Resorts World Las Vegas in 2014. It will be Genting's first destination resort in Las Vegas and will feature 3,500 rooms in the first phase and 175,000 square feet of total gaming space across several gaming floors, as well as several luxury dining and retail amenities.
Genting Malaysia is listed on Bursa Malaysia with approximately $7.7 billion in market capitalization. It owns and operates major properties including Resorts World Genting, Resorts World Casino New York City, Resorts World Bimini and casinos in the United Kingdom.
In Malaysia, Resorts World Genting has more than 9,000 rooms spread across six hotels, theme parks and entertainment attractions, as well as more than 200 dining and retail outlets, international shows and business convention facilities.
