India Allowing Visas on Arrival for U.S. Tourists

The Indian government has just added the United States to the list of countries whose citizens can receive a visa at the destination airport after applying online, according to a Wall Street Journal article.
“All procedures will become faster,” said Subhash Goyal, president of the Indian Association of Tour Operators, noting that the online approval process will let travelers go directly to the immigration section of an Indian international airport, which has more staff than the visa processing area.
This openness comes after the election of new government officials headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who promised less entrance hassle for tourists, businesspeople, and those with Indian heritage.
Here’s the Procedure
Single-entry tourist visas are valid for 30 days and can be applied for twice a year. The online application should include a copy of your passport and a photograph. Acceptance or rejection will occur within 72 hours. which must include a copy of your passport and a photograph. A screening process follows, and within 72 hours you will know if your visa application has been approved. Upon approval, print out the “electronic travel authorization” email, and present it upon arrival in India. They will take your fingerprint, then you are free to enjoy your visit.
Elegibility
According to the Indian government, the main purpose of the trip must be sightseeing, recreation, meeting friends or relatives, short-term medical care or casual business. Your passport must be valid for at least six months, and you must have a ticket out of the country, along with sufficient funds for the stay.
