A powerful 6.0 earthquake hit about six miles southwest of popular tourist destination Napa just before 3:30 a.m. PT on Sunday.
The earthquake is estimated to have caused at least $1 billion in damages, according to TIME.
That includes severe damage to some world-renowned wineries that are part of the backbone of the Napa region’s economy.
David Duncan, president and CEO of the award-winning Silver Oak winery, tweeted out some pictures on Sunday:

Duncan noted that the hundreds of bottles the winery lost were insured, but the main problem is that the wine took time to cultivate.
"We consider them to be sort of priceless because they're unique components of our blend, and so it's a bit of a bummer," he said, via NBC San Diego.
More than 60,000 Californians lost power. It was the strongest earthquake Northern California has felt since the 6.9-magnitude quake in Loma Prieta in 1989. According to Fox News, at least 172 people were injured and at least two are in critical or serious condition. Just to give you an idea, a 6.0 quake is 10 times more powerful than a 5.0 tremor.
Jawbone data scientist Brian Wilt used biometric data from thousands of UP health trackers to assess who felt the quake the most. As expected, Napa, Sonoma, Vallejo and Berkeley jolted the most users. San Francisco, Oakland and Santa Rosa also felt the quake when it hit to some extent, while few users from Sacramento and San Jose were woken up.
The quake occurs in the midst of Napa’s tourism season. Some wineries have already closed down.
But that doesn’t mean all businesses have shut down.
For example, the Carpe Diem wine bar sustained heavy damage, but Downtown Joe’s Brewery & Restaurant—just 100 feet away—was open for business on Sunday, per Yahoo! Travel.
Wineries and other businesses vital to the Napa region’s economy will pick up the pieces and try to get back up and running as soon as possible to welcome the influx of visitors this season.
