According to the Riviera Maya News, UNESCO wants to have representation in the state of Quintana Roo that combines the efforts of the local government with non-government organizations looking to improve Mexico.

As part of the announcement by UNESCO in Mexico, vice president Enrique Renteria Castro and local deputy Sonia Lopez Cardiel revealed the club intends to act on “global problems with local repercussions that contribute to the reflection process of social priorities.”

Lopez told local officials the expectation is to take the ideas and innovations to young people, especially in troubled areas like Villas del Sol in Playa del Carmen. By providing cultural, educational and recreational options, they will have more chances to succeed.

“Our society needs programs that invest in cognitive processes that allow for the education of the culture of peace,” Renteria Castro told the Riviera Maya News. “Only then will we face violence.”
