Airbus Patents A Bench, Because It Ran Out Of Wacky Ideas Long Ago

Professional patent purveyor Airbus released its hottest innovation to date, a potential seat solution that has all the comfort of a park bench.
As Business Insider reports, Airbus is adding to its long line of classic aviation patents with bench seating that would pepper the skies with versatility and comfort.
Various configurations follow below and can be seen in full at Airbus’ filing to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
In a rare twist, Airbus is going simple with its newest hypothetical innovation. It follows removable cabins and stackable seats with something that, dare we say, makes perfect sense.
Now, obviously, a bench that configures depending on passengers’ size isn’t going to be the preferred mode of transport for all, but it does solve some problems.

First, let’s take a look at how it might assuage two portly travelers who now have room for themselves as well as their jolly proportions.

Granted, the two above don’t look jolly but bear the cold, dead eyes of people forced to ride a bench for a few hours.
But let’s say you are flying high on vacation with your spouse and your two kids that actually look like miniature adults.
Well, the future is yours.

As you can see from the above images, the bench concept would offer seatbelt and armrest configurations that could meet the demands of various travel parties.
There is room for the traditional three-seat bench that resembles what we already enjoy on so many airlines.

Then there is an option for two people who would normally purchase two seats to satisfy their healthy proportions. Now they can just take up space on what is essentially a park bench in the sky.
Lastly, there is an option for that couple who were intelligent enough to stop their brood at two, which means they can now take up an entire bench for themselves.
Contrary to what you previously believed, there is a way, in 2016, to patent the brilliance that is the bench.
