Entertainment Donald Wood November 24, 2017

Looking to celebrate the post-Thanksgiving holiday season?
WinterFest at the Carowinds theme park officially opened Friday and runs through December 30.
With the help of more than five million holiday lights, a 70-foot Christmas tree and festive decorations, Carowinds transforms into a winter wonderland specifically designed for the enjoyment of the entire family.
Events and activities at the 2017 edition include a nightly tree lighting ceremony, live holiday shows, strolling performers, ice skating, up to 16 family rides, a special holiday menu and even falling snow.
Children visiting the North Carolina theme park during the holidays will be able to write a letter to Santa at the North Pole Post Office, take a picture with him at St. Nick's Pics, decorate cookies with Mrs. Claus, create keepsakes at Sally Brown's Christmas Crafts and visit a live nativity with a 38-animal petting zoo.
Travelers looking to celebrate the holidays with festive food will also be satisfied: WinterFest will feature more than 20 new menu items, including Turducken burgers, gourmet mac and cheese, gingerbread eggnog, chocolate-peppermint funnel cakes and hot chocolate.
