How Much Will You Spend Traveling to Super Bowl LI?
Entertainment Gabe Zaldivar January 27, 2017

There are a couple of assumptions we can take away from any Super Bowl: The game will more-than-likely disappoint, and those who see it live will make it rain all across the city.
Travel website Hipmunk unveiled a wealth of stats behind the upcoming Super Bowl in Houston that will see the New England Patriots take on the Atlanta Falcons, but these stats aren’t about a ground game or defensive prowess. Rather, these stats reveal how much travelers can expect to spend when descending upon the Houston area.
Airfare is understandably higher than it would be normally. Specifically, those booking travel are spending roughly 52 percent more to file into Houston with the rest of the screaming masses of football-crazed fans. If you are headed there from Atlanta—a relatively short jaunt—you are spending about $673, according to Hipmunk. A flight from Boston, however, drastically exceeds $1,000.

Costs are rising for those who waited to book their travel accommodations. Following January 23, travelers can expect to pay about $7,209, which includes the near $5,000 cost of the ticket.
As for what you should plan for in the way of grub, Hipmunk states: “For day-to-day costs, you’re looking at ~$300 per day for food, entertainment, and other expenses for the weekend.”
The game will mean a great deal to the city, however. According to the post, about 138,000 visitors will meander about town in the days before and after the game, bringing a whopping $450 million into the area.
While the rest of us are stuffing our faces with jalapeno poppers and beer, fans will get to see the biggest game of the season.
It’s a good thing because you will be spending handsomely for the opportunity.
