An $840 million theme park will be built near the Mexican resort city of Playa del Carmen.
Developers announced the news at a ceremony held at President Enrique Pena Nieto’s residence in Mexico City.
According to The Associated Press, the new amusement park, dubbed Amikoo, will feature 24 attractions across an area of almost 300 acres. The facility will be based on Mayan culture and will feature characters and settings paying homage to the history of Mexico.
The new theme park will be built in two stages, according to Mexico News Daily. The first portion of the construction will include a museum, 320-room hotel, convention center, concert hall, shopping area, restaurants and more. Some of rides include a flight simulator, submarine simulator, Pirates of Bacalar attraction and wave pool.
