Sophia Bush's boyfriend Dan Fredinburg was very close to the Mount Everest avalanche, but thankfully, he's safe.
The Google programmer had been hiking the world's highest peak for almost a month when disaster struck and killed 16 people on April 18.
"The climbing team is OK," Sophia told E! News at Elle's Women in Music celebration in Hollywood. "It was obviously really scary for all of us who love him and love everyone on the trip. They had just passed the icefalls where the avalanche happened a few hours before."
"It's a tight community—the climbers and the Sherpas," she continued. "To know that so many people were lost is devastating to everyone. How do you quantify or qualify that?"
The "One Tree Hill" alum took to Twitter shortly after the avalanche to let everyone know Dan and his team were safe.
"For all concerned, @danfredinburg & team are safe at Camp 1 on #Everest after the avalanche. Please keep the Sherpa's in your prayers," she tweeted.
On April 22, Dan posted a picture on Instagram of a vigil for those who died in the icefall.
"I gave my thanks to the Sherpa community for the chance to be one of very few to go on the mountain this year," the caption reads, in part. "And I pledged my personal support to help them get better respect and benefits from the Nepali govt. #reasonabledemands #everestawesome."
