Sweden Welcomes First Klingon Visitor Center

Throughout the history of tourism, the pathways to traveling to a foreign destination have been made easier through the assistance of local tourism offices.
Lured by the call of the Winter Olympics and looking for a new ski destination? Let the Korea Tourism Organization help you plan your getaway. Not sure if trekking the Wild Atlantic Way in winter is right for you? Tourism Ireland can surely help you map your course.
But while National Tourism Offices (NTOs) have been a staple for international travel information and Convention & Visitors Bureaus (CVBs) similarly provide information on domestic getaways, up until now there has been a real dearth of information on inter-galactic travel.
But now, hu-mans can take heart.
A theatre group in Sweden has become the first place on Planet Earth to host a visitor center for points beyond our planet. In partnership with the Klingon Institute of Cultural Exchange (and of course the tourism department of the Klingon high council), Turteatern in southern Stockholm welcomes the Visit Qo’noS visitor center.
Calling it a Terra-Friendly© presentation of Klingon culture and customs, the visitor center at Turteatern will only remain open through March 24.
If you can hightail it to Sweden in time—heck, fire up your Bird of Prey class warship and getting there should be a snap—you’ll be treated to Klingon cuisine and learn about Klingon customs, so you’re prepared for your trip to the First City on the planet Qo’noS. Preparation is key, says Turteatern, so you don’t risk discomfort or premature death on your trip.
In case you think those warrior Klingons are only about fighting, think again. Apparently, Qo’noS has a healthy cultural scene, and you’ll even enjoy a Klingon opera performance, a singalong program and scenes from the Klingon play Romyo je joloywI' (yes, that’s Romeo and Juliet) during your visit. Naturally, there will also be a martial arts demonstration.
Right about now, die-hard Star Trek fans may be wondering just which Klingons are represented at the visitor center.
"The most common question is if the Klingons look like the Klingons in the new Star Trek TV series Discovery, which of course they do not,” said Theresa Jonasson, a spokesperson for Turteatern in an interview with TheLocal.se. “That series is offensive for Klingons and should not be mentioned during the presentation."
Ready to plan your trip to the Beta Quadrant? Check with your travel insurance provider first, as not all policies cover damages incurred during a Borg invasion.
