If given enough time, an innovation will see itself devolve into something so depressing it’s downright hilarious.
Such is the case with the “sarcastic solution” to not having a friend around to help you with your travel photography.
Sure, we now have something called the selfie stick, a device that is increasingly banned across the globe, but that doesn’t solve the loneliness dilemma.
As CNET spotted, in steps in artists Justin Crow and Aric Snee with a device that really says volumes as to where we have come with our selfie obsession.
Thankfully social media is all abuzz about the peculiar device. Here are a couple of images that prove things like ‘friends’ have been rendered obsolete in 2015:

Now the Selfie Arm is just a concept at the moment. But we could see a real market for this thing by a populace who would take the joke too far and into the realm of daily life.
You can read more about the artists’ brilliant commentary that comes in the form of a lifeless arm at Design Boom.
The entry states, “Fascinated by the idea of technology and its illusionary ‘connectedness’ and ‘sociableness’, Snee and Crowe created the ‘selfie arm’. The sarcastic solution to a quintessential problem — nobody wants to look alone while they mindlessly snap pictures of themselves — the product conveniently provides you a welcoming arm and better yet, it doesn’t talk or have emotions of any sort.”
As the entry continues, the artists are merely doing what we have all done on trips by putting the attention on the lot that take to selfie generation.
Or, as Design Boom puts it, the “need for narcissistic internet validation” is now front and center with just one outstretched arm.
And as we said, we are absolutely certain there is someone out there who, with a straight face, would consider this a great idea.
We hope the artists patented the idea, just so we don’t have to see it out there.
