Traveling While Unattractive? The State Department Is Here To Help.
Entertainment Barry Kaufman March 31, 2016

We’ll give the State Departmen’s Bureau of Consular Affairs and E for effort on this one.
The official Twitter account for the bureau, in an attempt to help American spring breakers stay safe while traveling overseas, has been posting a series of Tweets under the hashtag #springbreakingbadly. A few examples of this appear below, offering the kind of neighborly advice that could help keep your spring break abroad from turning into a nightmare.
Somebody offered you a free trip abroad, but the free luggage they offered is lined with cocaine. Beware of these scams #springbreakingbadly

If someone asks you to take a package overseas, dont do it. Foreign jail is not where you want to spend spring break. #springbreakingbadly

But as happens when official government social media accounts skew too far in to #fellowkids territory, things quickly got awkward when the account posted the following, since deleted:
"Not a ‘10’ in the US? Then not a 10 overseas. Beware of being lured into buying expensive drinks or worse – being robbed,"

While we appreciate the State Department’s efforts to look out for the nation’s many less-attractive travelers, you can see why people may have taken offense. This being Twitter, they did so in hilariously grand fashion.
Really surprised that this hasn't been deleted yet. Is Donald Trump tweeting for the State Department now? https://t.co/YaJcozFAR6

And we have to applaud the efforts of whoever set up this parody account:
Before traveling, if you aren't certain whether you're a 10 a good test is to ask yourself if you've ever felt bad looking at a magazine

The State Department, to their credit, was quick to issue an apology:
Some have been offended by our earlier tweet and we apologize that it came off negatively 1/2

We see many Americans fall victim to scams each year & want all to be careful while traveling 2/2
