United Even Catches Heat For Viral 'Nuggs' Challenge

If you ever make a complete fool of yourself at a party, sometimes it’s best to slink into a corner for the rest of the night instead of attempting to redeem yourself.
United just busted out the sport coat, dusted off the shoulders and tried its hand as cool kid at the soiree.
It didn’t quite work out.
Mashable reports the airline was trying to get in on the latest Internet craze: one man’s mission to procure a year’s supply of Wendy’s chicken nuggets.
For the uninitiated, Carter Wilkerson is a young man who had a dream, a dream of locking down a year’s worth of nuggets by way of social media. He reached out to the fast-food chain, asking how many retweets he would need. Wendy’s replied that 18 million would get it done.

And when the Internet wants to accomplish something, it does just that.
Wilkerson has become the owner of the most retweeted post on Twitter, surpassing Ellen DeGeneres’ Oscar selfie. As you might notice from his tweet, Wilkerson is well away from hitting 18 million. Yet, Wendy’s decided taking the top spot from the comedian was enough to grant his wish as well as give him $100,000 for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
We did it guys! Thanks to you're help and support we were able to raise $100k for @DTFA and beat @TheEllenShow record! Now let's get 18mil!

This brings us to United and the various brands that wanted to hop on Wendy’s goodwill-powered coattails.
The embattled airline tweeted out its own challenge, stating that it would promise to send Wilkerson anywhere United flies if he reached 18 million. Shortly after breaking the record for most retweets, it called Wilkerson’s ploy a job done well enough and congratulated him with a flight anywhere despite not yet hitting the magic number.
If you get the 18 million RTs, we'll give you a free flight to take you to any @Wendys in the world in a city we serve. Good luck! https://t.co/igxnPg1JUF

For those playing at home, United has been at the wrong end of one bizarre and terrible headline after another. The latest charge against the airline is from a woman who contends the airline forced her to pee in a cup when they refused to let her use the lavatory.
As Mashable notes, the Internet was in such a good mood that it decided to have some fun at United’s expense.

We are now inching into summer, and it’s still not United’s year.
I suggest that it take a proverbial cocktail, move to a dark corner of the room and sip on it until 2018.
