Adrenaline junkies have long since searched for an amusement park solution to their extreme needs. Forget the slingshot ride or the bungee jump, because in Denmark they are literally just dropping people from 100 feet in the air.
Geek.com’s Matthew Humphries spotted the following video on YouTube, which should serve to remind that the human race is determined to lick this gravity guff one way or another. (Video features possible NSFW language.)
As you can see, Tivoli Friheden park in Denmark has completely disregarded gimmicks and fancy contraptions like safety harnesses. Instead, they have gone with the “less is more” approach, dropping visitors from 100 feet in the air.
Because untimely death is bad for business, the ride does feature a wide net to catch the occasional hailstorm of human bodies.
The ride’s website page delivers the crucial information:
First, you need to be older than 14, which is presumably the age when your horrible life decisions are accepted by those around you. This includes various amusement park officials.
Second, you will need to weigh between 50 and 120 kilograms, which is roughly between 110 and 264 pounds. And really, this is the kind of ride when you will want to check and double check your weight before falling.
As for specifics, you will be dropping from a height of 30 meters, reaching a speed of 90 kilometers per hour (55.9 mph). You will also feel the effect of 4G pressure, which, as the website explains, “means that your body weight is multiplied by 4.0.”
Metro’s Harry Readhead explains the ride isn’t necessarily the first of its kind:
“Suspended Catch Air Devices like this, or SCAD towers, have been used by a scientific researcher to simulate near-death experiences and test how the brain’s perception of time changes when it thinks its about to die.”
That’s right. This is essentially the ride you need to line up for if you have a hankering to feel the icy-cold clutch of death’s grip.
We assume the next iteration will feature a park dropping visitors into a tiny cup of water surrounded by a massive bonfire.
If you need me, I will be riding the tea cups.
