A tourist visiting China's Nanchang Zoo last week was apparently looking to impress his two female friends when he snuck into the giant panda enclosure. However, the animal was having none of it.
Surveillance footage obtained by China's People's Daily Online shows the man teasing the sleeping panda and petting it before it suddenly wakes up and grabs hold of him.
The video shows the man struggling with the bear for more than a minute before he's finally able to shake free. The man was said to be trapped for roughly five minutes.
"The young man left the zoo right after he escaped, and we could not get in touch with him," said the deputy head of the zoo's management office Kuang Huaming, according to Deutsche Welle.
Citing witnesses, Huaming said the panda ripped the man's pants before he got away.
Fortunately, both man and panda appeared to come away unscathed.
"On the other hand, we also arranged medical checks for the panda and told the breeders to closely observe its condition," he added. "So far the panda is fine."
