You’ve seen those books about places you need to see before you die, but not all of the entries are for those who love sports. Here, we offer you the 10 top locations that should be on your bucket list if you can’t get enough of pretty much any sport.
Football history: Whether you’re a cheesehead or not, a trip to Lambeau Field in Wisconsin should be on your list if you love football. The Green Bay Packers were the winners of the first Super Bowl, so the history of the team and the sport is enough to warrant a trip to Titletown, USA. Here you can take a tour and walk along the sidelines, see the 50-foot chrome Vince Lombardi trophy replica, tour the Hall of Fame, and walk the Heritage Trail Tour, a self-guided tour of exhibits, plaques and statues.
Football fans should also check out AT&T Stadium, the fifth-largest stadium in the NFL, located in Dallas, Texas, a stadium that has a maximum capacity of 105,000. It also has the world's 24th-largest high definition video screen, which hangs from 20-yard line to 20-yard line and, of course, it is home to the Dallas Cowboys.
On the college football front, the number one place you should visit is the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. The first Tournament of Roses Parade took place in 1890 and The Rose Bowl Game is commonly referred to as "The Granddaddy of Them All" in relation to the college postseason games.
Out of the Park: Fenway Park is a baseball park located in Boston, and is home to the Boston Red Sox since 1912. It’s also one of the smallest Major League Baseball parks, only able to accommodate 40,000 people. Fenway Park opened the same day that the Titanic crashed.
Now that the Chicago Cubs have won the World Series, it’s even more significant that baseball players should check out Wrigley Field located on the North Side of Chicago, Illinois. It first opened in 1914 as Weeghman Park, but chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. of the Wrigley Company acquired control of the Cubs in 1921 and it was renamed Wrigley Field in 1927.
And they’re off: If you got a thing for the ponies, then head out to Churchill Downs in Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Derby. The race dates back to 1789, when the first race course was constructed in Lexington. According to the Churchill Downs website, The Founding of Churchill Downs began in 1872, when Colonel Meriwether Lewis Clark traveled to England and France in 1872. Clark began the development of the racetrack, with intentions to showcase the Kentucky breeding industry that eventually became known as "Churchill Downs."
On the pitch: If you’d prefer your sports on the pitch, then there should be two places on your bucket list - Camp Nou in Barcelona, Spain, and Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy where some of the best futbol (we know it as soccer) games are played. Camp Nou is a football stadium has been the home of FC Barcelona since its completion in 1957. The Stadio Olimpico is the home stadium of Serie A clubs Lazio and and was the stadium for the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
Daytona International Speedway: If you have a need for speed, the head south to the Daytona International Raceway in Daytona, Florida. Since opening in 1959, it has been the home of the Daytona 500, the most prestigious race in NASCAR. It also hosts many other racing events. A lot of racing history has been made here, so make sure you see it in person.
Aces: Last, but definitely not least, is Wimbledon Centre Court in London which is host to the biggest tennis championship in the world, the Wimbledon Championship, the third annual Grand Slam event of the tennis calendar. While you are there, check out Centre Court, which has a Royal Box for use by the Royal Family and other guests.
